Accenture Is A Global Management Consulting Commerce Essay

Accenture Is A Global Management Consulting Commerce Essay Accenture is a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, with approximately 2,59,000 people serving clients in more than 120 countries. Combining unparalleled experience, comprehensive capabilities across all industries and business functions, and extensive research on the worlds most successful companies, Accenture collaborates with clients to help them become high-performance businesses and governments. Accenture originated as the business and technology consulting division of accounting firm  Andersen Consulting in 1953. Its first project was to automate payroll processing and manufacturing at General Electronics Appliance Park in Kentucky. Since then, it has been consistently expanding. In 2001 Andersen Consulting adopted its current name, Accenture. The word Accenture is derived from Accent on the future. Accenture felt that the name should represent its will to be a global consulting leader and high performer, and also intended that the name should not be offensive in any country in which Accenture operates. Accentures high performance business strategy builds on its proficiency in consulting, technology and outsourcing to improve its clients performance. Using its technology capabilities and industrial knowledge, it identifies new business and technology trends and develops solutions to help clients around the world enter new markets, increase revenues in existing market, improve operational performance and deliver their products and services more effectively and efficiently. Organizational structure: Accenture follows a Matrix Organizational structure. All the employees are given certain basic trainings (known as Green Field Training) based on their previous skills set. People with similar skills are pooled and allocated to work projects based on their suitability. Every project has 2 managers: A project manager and a functional manager. The authority of the functional manager flows vertically downwards and the authority of the project manager flows sideward. Hence, each functional worker usually reports to the functional heads, but does not normally work directly under their supervision. Instead, the worker is controlled by a project manager. This way, each worker has two superiors, who will jointly ensure the progress of the project. Most of the projects in Accenture follow Strong Matrix i.e. most of the authorities lie with the project manager. The project manager has a full time role,  controls the project budget  and he has full time project management administrative staff under him. The functional head may be more interested in developing the most exiting products or technologies, whereas the project manager is more concerned with keeping deadlines and controlling project costs. Leadership style: There is no fixed leadership style in Accenture and it varies from project to project based on the project manager. My project managers leadership style can be best described as Participative. Even though he didnt have much technical knowledge, he used to take all the critical decisions by gathering inputs from the employees working under him and coagulate all the information to reach a final conclusion. This made the group members feel more engaged in the process which made them more motivated and creative. Culture: Accenture has a unique culture in which every new employee is given a KT (Knowledge Transfer) Session by his team members (irrespective of his designation). This session includes an overview on the working style of the project, all the technical details that are supposed to be known by the new member. After this process, the new member is asked to shadow the existing members of the same designation for 1 week during which, he is only supposed to sit, observe and understand the work performed by the existing employees. After the end of 1 week, the new employee is asked to give a Reverse KT which includes a presentation on his learnings during the week in front of a few senior members of the organization. Reverse KT is a measure to determine the grasping power of the employee which helps the manager in deciding the sub-team to which he should be allocated. Also, there is a culture of celebrating all the festivals by wearing traditional clothes and getting sweets from home. Since there is a lot of regional diversity in the company, this helps in gaining knowledge of each others cultures. The whole team sits together for lunch on festive occasions and enjoys the sweets. Accenture has a quarterly awards ceremony in which a few of the best performing employees in the project are given awards (such as Tiger of the Quarter, Shining star of the quarter). They are given certain CP points as rewards which can be used to shop online (1CP point = Rs. 10). This increases the passion, zeal in employees to outperform their peers and win the award resulting in a more dedicated lot of employees. Team Building initiatives: One of Accentures core values is to attract, develop and retain the best talents for their business and foster a collaborative and mutually supportive environment for them. Hence, they give a lot of focus on team building activities. Accenture organizes inter project competitions such as cricket matches, cultural competitions (singing, dance, battle of bands etc.) every month which binds the project co-workers together and increases their interaction. Cricket matches give the project co-workers a sense of unity and improves teamwork amongst co-workers. Accenture also allocates quarterly budgets for group dinners where the whole team is taken out for dinner by the project manager. The budget depends on the performance of the team. Hence, this is another motivational factor for the team to work harder and improve their performance. Also, every team members birthday is celebrated in the office cafeteria with a cake cutting ceremony during which the whole team is present. This improves the team dynamics and keeps the employee enthused. Politics: Power and politics go hand in hand. The same was the case in Accenture. Office politics such as favoritism, groupism existed in Accenture. Individuals used to make use of the power assigned to them for the purpose of obtaining advantages beyond their legitimate authority. On occasions, team leads used to recommend those employees for quarterly rewards with whom they had a good repo irrespective of the work being performed by them. Innovation / Creativity initiatives: There are certain SIMs (Service Improvement initiatives) which can be raised by an employee to add in his creative ideas and innovations. These SIMs follow a specific procedure where they are validated by the functional manager first by checking the feasibility of the idea and the procedure on how to implement it in the existing environment. After testing, they are moved forward to the project manager. Upon attaining his approval, it is passed to the Senior Executive who informs the clients about the innovation. After all the required approvals are taken, the team is asked alter the system by adding the creative idea to the existing environment. Even though this is a time consuming process, it is more methodical and takes into account all the drawbacks and negative impacts of the creative initiative on the existing system. Critique on the current internal scenario / internal environment including people practices: The biggest problem faced by the employees of Accenture is the allocation of projects. Even though there are Accenture Delivery Centers spread out across 7 cities all over India, people are not given their preferred city. A person opting for Delhi might be given Chennai and vice versa. As a result, people have to live away from their hometown which decreases the EQ level as well as results in an additional cost of living which the employee has to bear. Therefore, the satisfaction level of the employees reduces which results in a reduction in their efficiency or even a company switch. Suggestions and recommendations to make the organization a Futuristic or Visionary Firm of Endearment or Conscious Capitalistic organization: Accenture has come a long way since its separation from Arthur Anderson in 2000 to evolve into a mega external service provider with its roots in various industries, regions around the world. Accenture has many opportunities to gain market leadership in various countries which can be done via small/medium sized acquisitions. This will help the company expand it capabilities, service, presence worldwide. Accenture should expand and recruit more people from developing country (like India, Philippines, China) which provide low-cost development and support  to local client-facing personnel in a given domestic market. This will result in a more hardworking set of employees at cheaper costs. Also, the cost of setting up delivery centers in those countries will also be cheaper than the developed countries like UK, USA. To be highly competitive, external service providers such as Accenture should possess strong global capabilities to manage clients and engagements worldwide. Hence, Accenture should plan to increase its low cost work force. Also, the firm should change its project allocation system and focus more on the preferred cities of the employees. Being with their families will keep the employees satisfied. It would also reduce the reallocation charges and brokerage charges that the company usually pays when reallocating an employee to a city which is not his preferred one.

Hsm/230 Building an Ethical Organization Part 1

Building an Ethical Organization Part 1 Jennifer O HSM/230 9-18-11 Sharon Johnson-Fox Today, we have an overabundance of citizens who cannot afford good, quality medical care. Hampton Roads Complete Care Center (HRCC) is hoping to change that. We are going to be a non-profit dedicated to the citizens of our community and the surrounding cities. We will provide quality care for those who need it and will provide resources for those who request it. We will treat all clients as well as staff with compassion and respect. The organization is going to be a complete wellness and care facility. The first priority will be to provide residents with the proper care they need. We will be a non-profit and will rely on government grants, donations, and volunteer workers who can hopefully be able to eventually move into paid positions. We are also hoping to employ the elderly and disabled to give them a feeling of accomplishment and being needed. We will service the elderly, disabled, homeless, low income, pregnant women, veterans, anyone who needs our services and we will provide services for those who have been denied help elsewhere. We are going to be a full service center and will also be able to help those with mental disabilities. Eventually as we grow, and with more funding, we would like to have many doctors and counselors on board as there are many people in the community that could benefit from mental and health services. We will provide pregnancy testing as well as birth control pills. We will have counselors and mentors to help anyone who feels they need to talk in private. Sometimes, there are teens and young mothers who feel that they have no one to listen and we can provide that here. We will also have referrals for those who need extra help, for instance if they are pregnant and contemplating abortion; we can direct them to the proper person. This also holds true if there is a veteran who needs help with a drinking or drug problem, we can provide them with the needed information. Even though we are not a facility that will deal with those specific issues, we will certainly try and provide any help that we can. In the Human Service industry ethics are of great importance and I believe everyone deserves the chance to receive help and if HRCC doesn’t provide it then we will do whatever it takes to get them to a place that can. As Manning (2003) states â€Å"How we operate affects the entire organization. This quote should be taken to heat by any organization that hopes to succeed. Our mission statement is to protect the health and well-being of all clients in the Hampton Roads and surrounding cities community. To increase access to healthcare and wellness to the uninsured, and to provide clients with a safe place in which their medical and emotional needs can be met. I feel the mission statement does support the ethi cal system. In my opinion it is unethical to turn away anyone who needs help. Communication is another important factor in dealing with clients and their physicians. As Ashley and O’Rourke (2002) stated, ‘Today a patient often receives healthcare from a team of providers, especially in the setting of the modern acute-care hospital. But the resulting multiplication of the relationships does not alter the personal character of the interaction between health care providers and the patient. The relationship of the person seeking healthcare and the professionals providing the care is an important part of the foundation on which diagnosis and care is provided. † (p. 226) This is especially true when you do have elderly or homeless, who are sometimes either more trusting or reserved. The doctors and counselors that we employ are going to try as much as possible to have that communication and one on one time although it may be difficult at times. It is a vital part of our mission that clients need to feel safe and secure. Our mission statement will let the community know that we will be there to help in any way we can and will provide for their needs as much as we possibly can. I recall a time when my grandmother was still alive and I was taking her to a doctor’s appointment. When we arrived she was notified that her doctor had retired and that she would be seeing the new doctor, she was understandably very nervous and scared and asked if I would please find out why she had not be informed. The receptionist let us know that the doctor had retired without notice and they simply overlooked some of his regular patients. The new doctor was so concerned for my grandmother that he spent an extra 20 minutes making her feel at ease. This is the behavior that I envision for HRCC. It is extremely important to make clients feel at ease in an uncomfortable situation. Values can be defined as those things that are important or valued by someone. Honesty, loyalty and integrity are important parts of HRCC and the values shared by the team can be very powerful. The vision is clear, The Hampton Roads complete Care Center will partner with the community to improve the quality of life through better health. Our values statement is Teamwork, Integrity, and Quality. We will work as a team to achieve our purpose and make sure we connect our clients to the proper information. We will treat each other with respect and behave in an ethical manner. We will continuously improve the quality of all our services over time. We will have compassion for others and sometimes we can even offer humor, laughter is, after all, the best medicine. I think in working together we can create a remarkable care center that can potentially thrive. In conclusion, Hampton Roads Complete Care Center will meet the needs of many of our citizens. We will make them feel safe and secure in the knowledge that their needs will be met and they will get the healthcare and medications that they need. It is my greatest hope that HRCC becomes a vital part of the community and that in the years to come it can flourish and have many contributors. It is my dream that we can greatly reduce the number of people in our community that don’t have proper healthcare. Through hard work and dedication, with the desire to help others, this is a very achievable dream. References Ashley and O’Rourke (2002) Ethics of Healthcare; an introductory textbook. How to Find the Best School for Architecture

Hundreds of colleges and universities offer classes in architecture and related fields. How do you choose the best architecture school? What is the best training for you to become an architect? Here are some resources and advice from the experts. Types of Architecture Degrees Many different paths can take you toward an Architecture degree. One route is to enroll in a 5-year Bachelor or Master of Architecture program. Or, you can earn a bachelors degree in another field such as mathematics, engineering, or even art. Then go on to graduate school for a 2- or 3-year Masters degree in Architecture. These different paths each have advantages and disadvantages. Consult with your academic advisers and teachers. Architecture School Ranks With so many schools to choose from, where do you begin? Well, you can look at manuals such as Americas Best Architecture Design Schools, which evaluate schools according to a variety of criteria. Or, you can check general rankings of college and university programs. But beware of these reports! You may have interests that arent reflected in school ranks and statistics. Before you choose an architecture school, think closely about your personal needs. Where do you want to practice? How important is a diverse, international student population? Compare world rankings with country rankings, analyze the design and technology of school websites, study curricula, visit a few prospective schools, attend free and open lectures, and talk to people who have attended there. Americas Best Architecture Design SchoolsAcademic Ranking of World UniversitiesThe Times Higher Education World University RankingsQuacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings Accredited Architecture Programs To become a licensed architect, youll need to meet the educational requirements established in your state or country. In the USA and Canada, requirements can be met by completing an architecture program that has been approved by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) or the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB). Remember that architecture programs are accredited for professional licensing, and schools and universities are accredited as educational institutions. Accreditation such as WASC may be an important accreditation for a school, but it does not meet the educational requirements for an architecture program or professional licensing. Before you enroll in an architecture course, always make sure that it meets the criteria established by the country where you plan to live and work. Find Accredited Architecture ProgramsAssociation of Collegiate Schools of Architecture Architecture Training Programs Many fascinating careers related to architecture do not require a degree from an accredited architecture program. Perhaps you would like to work in drafting, digital design, or home design. A technical school or an art school may be the ideal place to pursue your education. Online search engines can help you locate both accredited and non-accredited architecture programs anywhere in the world. Schools for Art and DraftingFind Architecture ClassesArchitecture-Related Careers Architecture Internships Regardless of the school you select, eventually youll need to obtain an internship and receive specialized training outside the classroom. In the USA and many other parts of the world, an internship lasts about 3-5 years. During that time, you will earn a small salary and be supervised by licensed registered pros. At the completion of your internship period, youll need to take and pass a registration exam (the ARE in the USA). Passing this exam is your final step toward obtaining a license to practice architecture. Architecture is historically and traditionally learned by apprenticeships—working with other people is important in learning the trade and vital in being professionally successful. A young Frank Lloyd Wright started out working with Louis Sullivan; both Moshe Safdie and Renzo Piano apprenticed with Louis Kahn. Often an internship or apprenticeship is chosen specifically to learn more about a specialty. Intern Development Program (IDP)About Student Internships Study Architecture on the Web Online courses can be a useful introduction to architectural studies. By taking interactive architecture classes on the Web, you can learn basic principles and possibly even earn credits toward a degree in architecture. Experienced architects may also turn to online classes to expand their knowledge. However, before you can earn a degree from an accredited architecture program, youll need to attend seminars and participate in design studios. If you cant attend classes full-time, look for universities that combine online courses with weekend seminars, summer programs, and on-the-job training. Read the blogs of architects such as Bob Borson—his Design Studio: Top 10 Things you should know helps us understand the design process in a learning environment. Online Architecture ProgramsFree Online Architecture ClassesDiscuss: Online Education for Architects Architecture Scholarships The long progress toward a degree in architecture will be expensive. If youre in school right now, ask your guidance counselor for information about student loans, grants, fellowships, work-study programs, and scholarships. Check scholarship listings published by the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Most importantly, ask to meet with a financial aid adviser at your chosen college. Ask For Help Ask professional architects about the type of training they recommend and how they got their start. Read about the lives of professionals, such as French architect Odile Decq: I had this idea when I was a teenager, but I thought at the time that to be an architect, you had to be very good at sciences, and you have to be a man - that it was a very male dominated field. I thought about art decoratif [decorative arts], but to do that I had to go to Paris, and my parents didnt want me to go to the city because I was a young girl and could get lost. So they asked me to go to the main capital in Bretagne where I am from, which is near Rennes, and studied art history for one year. There, I started to discover through meeting students in the school of architecture that I could have done my studies in architecture realizing its not obligatory to be good at math or science, and that it was not only for men but women too. So I passed the exam to enter the school, I applied for the school and succeeded. So, I started like that.—Odile Decq Interview, January 22, 2011, designboom, July 5, 2011 [accessed July 14, 2013] Searching for the right school can be both exciting and terrifying. Take time to dream, but also consider practical considerations such as location, finances, and the general atmosphere of the school. As you narrow down your choices, feel free to post questions in our discussion forum. Perhaps someone who has recently graduated can offer a few tips. Good luck! Discuss: Becoming an Architect Later in LifeDiscuss: Which University Should I Apply To? Flexible Programs and Distance Learning There are many ways to become an architect. Although you probably wont be able to earn a degree entirely through online coursework, some colleges do offer flexible programs. Look for accredited architecture programs that offer some online coursework, weekend seminars, summer programs, and credit for on-the-job training. Discuss: Becoming an Architect Later in Life Special Needs Beware of rankings. You may have interests that arent reflected in statistical reports. Before you choose an architecture school, think closely about your personal needs. Send away for catalogs, visit a few prospective schools, and talk to people who have attended there. Video Games And Its Effects On Young Children - 891 Words

Tech Savvy Children According to the Entertainment Software Rating Board in 2010, sixty percent of households play video games (Video Game Ind.). It is not surprising that in the technical age we live in, people are playing video games more than ever. Inevitably, this brings into question the violent nature of some popular video games and their potentially dangerous and harmful impact on young children. â€Å"Video game addiction is without a doubt, becoming this century’s most increasingly worrisome epidemic comparable even to drug and alcohol abuse† (MAVAV). Many believe violent games are a main contributing cause to criminal and/or aggressive behavior in children. They want to go as far as banning the games that have violence in them. In my opinion, parents must take responsibility of their children’s education, as well as playtime activities, and pay attention to the degree of violence and aggressiveness in the specific games they purchase. â€Å"â₠¬ ¦there’s no evidence that this leads to violent behavior in real life. F.B.I. data shows that youth violence continues to decline; it is now at its lowest in years†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (Olson, Perverse). I believe video games can be beneficial to the mind, body, and soul. Carol Ann Duffy Shooting Stars free essay sample

Carol Ann Duffys poem Shooting Stars is a poem in which human suffering is effectively portrayed. Duffy uses the situation of Nazi persecution of the Jewish people to underline this. Duffys use of an ambiguous title, together with her imagery effectively explores this theme of human suffering. The poems title Shooting Stars creates a sense of ambiguity. The general connotations applied to this phrase are that of a falling star or perhaps the beauty and brightness of fireworks. However it is not until we reach the actual content of the poem that we realise that the stars in question are those Stars of David, sewn on o the garments of Jews on the order of the Nazi regime. Duffy establishes the darkness and horror of the Holocaust immediately in the first line of the poem in the phrase After I no longer speak. Here Duffy creates an incredibly strong image of silence and death when the voice has been stilled permanently. The horror is continued in the image created by they break our fingers and there is in this the onomatopoeia of the sound of snapping bones as Wedding rings are salvaged for profit. Here again the poet uses the two conflicting images of the wedding band, a symbol of eternal love and theft and profit through death in Juxtaposition. The first two lines create a vivid picture of mans inhumanity to man, the unthinking, uncaring cruelty with which one race imposes on another. As the first stanza develops Duffy uses traditional Jewish names, all unpunctuated to remove the idea of them being individuals, but a huge collective dead. Yet despite this she reveals the courage with which these woman faced death upright as statues, individuals who looked straight ahead waiting for death with calmness. The poet intensifies her images in her demand of the reader and to the wider world to Remember. This demand is repeated least the world forget for the narrator of the oem states that the World is now for ever bad. Duffys word choice within the poem effectively introduces an impersonal note. The narrative given from the point of view of one of the suffering allows the reader, however, to appreciate the scale that inhumanity can inflict and in turn the scale of this suffering. As the poem progresses Duffy personalises the horror of the holocaust. The child seen between a gap in corpses is shot, her eye. She used as a target. The narrator too whilst still alive is seen as little more than a sexual object as one soldier seeing she was alive loosened his belt. The detail in stanzas two and three appal the reader and force him or her to recoil at the bestiality that is conveyed so bluntly in the poem. She closes the third stanza again with a warning note that such cruelty still applies in the world today she states that only a matter of days separate/this from acts of torture now. The adverb now brings us to the present day and the poet asks us to consider Just how little mankind has changed, perhaps implying that humans as a species are ignorant to their transgressions and fail to learn from the past. The reference to April evening with its connotations of springtime, Easter and beauty s set against the gossiping and smoking by the graves and the deplorable image of the soldiers tormenting those already wounded, or those who escaped death by feigning the bullet shot, by using an empty chamber. The onomatopoeia of click, trick and trickled mirrors the short sharp sounds of the empty gun, the harshness and inhumanity of the trick and the final humiliation of the trickled urine, the last indignity. Perhaps this more than anything, this trick of pretending to shoot but using an empty bullet chamber, the toying with the lives of those already suffering is the most dreadful of all. The waiting for death is lengthened and so suffering is also elongated. In the closing section of the poem the poets description of the suffering of the Jews in Europe between 1933 and 1944 is made even more dreadful when Duffy reminds us that the enormity of the Holocaust has made little impact, for the human race is still intent on inflicting human suffering. In the closing stanzas of the poem Duffy once again highlights the immensity of the horror of those events by contrasting them with the civilised activities of the human being i. e. the tea on the lawn and the boy washing his uniform. And these activities apply to the reader, as they read of such events and yet return to their everyday lives, they run to our toys to the oblivion that forgetfulness brings. She uses ellipsis once more, only this time the soil of time is shovelled over Sara Ezra We forget all too quickly. The final lines end on a note of tragedy for the poet returns us to the inside of the concentration camp where inside the wire strong men wept. The poet again emphasises the extent, the immensity of this event, when strong men are unable to tolerate this. This return back to the concentration camps also shows the cyclic ature of suffering in Duffys message to the reader, humans inflict suffering unto other humans and then when the events have been forgotten they are repeated. The closing lines of the poem Turn thee/unto me with mercy for I am desolate and lost is a reworking of verse six-teen Psalm twenty five which is a prayer from King David to God in which David places his absolute trust in God. Extending this idea in that the Jews themselves ask the rest of the world to be merciful and this request has not been granted. The poet is an address from woman to woman for men are seen to be the inflictors f the inhumane actions that are the centre of the poem and perhaps she sees the possibility of salvation through women. Yet the poem ends on a sense of desolation and loss for nothing seems to have changed in the world. The holocaust is repeated all over the world constantly and the voices raised in protest do not seem to be heard. Duffys verse is extremely powerful and we wonder why the world does not listen to the lessons of the past for today in the 21st century we constantly read and see of human suffering on a similar if not a greater scale than that of the Holocaust.
